Casting

Mailed off my absentee ballot this morning.

Sort of felt dirty after filling in the bubbles.

No matter who gets into office, their first year, or more, will be defined by the bailout passed last week unless there's a disaster of 9-11 or the 2008 Sichuan earthquake proportions.

I find myself missing the idealism of my youth and I'm not even 30.

It's because you are wise beyond your years that this all depresses you. But also because of that that you have not learned how to partition your angst about the world away from your real life.

As for the new Star Trek movie, I am going into it knowing I will love it. Some people complained about the last Indiana Jones movie and the best way I can explain myself is to say: It was an Indiana Jones movies and so I loved it. This will be a Star Trek movie with a good director and some actors I like and I will love it. Period. I'll admit I did not like the one that Shatner directed, but I did not hate it because it was a Star Trek movie. As long as they make movies about the "worlds" I like to visit, I'm going to like them. Well as long as they don't put Miley Cyrus in them.

Thanks, Geewits.

And on Star Trek I know I'll have fun at the movie while I'm watching it. Thinking about it later may be a different story.

I just want the movie to be good. I want it to be enjoyed by Trekkies and casual sci-fi fans and regular folks, too.

Some would say idealism is highly overrated.
