You know, I've wanted to leave here for a long time. Mostly because I'd like to live somewhere where pretension is low(er) and trees are high(er). Now I want to leave because of my job.
I know how you feel. My neighbours have been driving me insane for a whole year with their umpteen loud stereo's, screaming girlfriends and determination to turn the common area into a sty. But luckily I'm moving away in a little less than two weeks. Yay.
You can get out. Just make a list of what you need to do in order to do so and start at the top!
Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to make a big leap forward. Maybe you should move back home and get a simple easy job to earn pocket money while you devote your time to finding a job that is better for you. I'd like you to see a professional job placement person to see if you need help in your interviewing skills. You are fascinating and wise here, but maybe you are clamming up in the interviews?
Choochoo -- If only it were as simple as noisy neighbors.
Wings -- I wanted to grab an man and hurl him over the railing so he could fall three floors and hopefully hit his head on a large concrete planter.
Geewits -- The professional may be a good, albeit an expensive, idea. I'll think about it.
Moving back with my parents, and getting a craptastic job that'd leave me smelling like food products, that's another thing entirely. Besides, in my live, I've had as much luck getting "a simple easy job" as I have any other job.
Heels -- Can't wait for eventually, need to find something before I leave.

It sucks, but maybe you should just LEAVE. You're educated and smart, and I know we could find you something eventually.
