This rating is just having the thing look at the front page of my blog. They say it's PG "was determined based on the presence of the following words:
* assholes (2x)
* hell (1x)"
However, if I ask them to look at my blog for all of 2007, so far, I get:
This one "was determined based on the presence of the following words:
* dead (7x)
* assholes (5x)
* hell (4x)
* fuck (3x)
* shit (2x)
* hells (1x)"
And just like the MPAA, the context in which these words were used doesn't matter at all.

I recently read a rant in Entertainment Weekly (June 22) by Mark Harris regarding the MPAA ratings. According to his article the most my blog could get would be an R because I never discuss sex. Apparently only sex gets an NC-17. He was talking about how horrific the violence is in "Hostel:Part III." And yet it got an R. I don't know how you used "fuck" but if it wasn't about sex, I think you just get an R. What the fuck?
After I left that comment, I read some of your other stuff. I just watched The Ditty Bops sing "Gentle Sheep" on YouTube. I really liked it. It has a sort of haunting quality to it.

Nextly, I read that rant, too. It seemed mostly about him wanting the MPAA to be a parent to parents so they can't bring their kids to movies like Hostel. If you rent the movie This Film is Not Yet Rated (which, oddly enough, is rated) they talk about how the ratings bored goes through and counts how many swear words are used. (This way film makers can trade four "damns," two "hells," and a "son of a bitch" to keep an extra "shit" in the film and still get a PG-13 rating.) So, cursing does count. I do agree, though, that since none of the language is in sexual terms, an R would be more appropriate.
And I'm really glad that someone listened to "Gentle Sheep." Everyone should like The Ditty Bops. And if you want a haunting song listen to "Unfortunate Few." Great stuff.
